Go for an optimal pedal feel
Besides the steering wheel, the pedals are the only control instruments a kart has. It is therefore important that the pedal feel is optimally transmitted. Kart shoes have been developed for this purpose; narrow shoes with a very thin sole.
Laces, extra Velcro or quick closure
Almost all kart shoes are made of (synthetic) leather, which provides more sturdiness to the shoe, protects against light rain, and keeps the feet warmer in cold conditions. The entry-level models often feature a classic lace-up closure, the better models have a lace-up closure with an additional Velcro strap, and the luxury kart shoes are equipped with a quick closure. With the latter closure, it is a breeze to fit the shoe snugly around the foot in no time, and laces coming undone during driving are impossible.
Choose not too roomy, but precisely fitting
The only rule that applies to kart shoes is that they must be protective, there is no further homologation for kart shoes. For driving in very wet or cold conditions, special rain shoes are available on the market, some in the form of a shoe without perforations, others in the form of a kind of rain boot. In terms of sizing, most kart shoes fit normally, with the only note being that they are narrower than everyday shoes. When the driver stands, the big toe should certainly come towards the front of the shoe, as in the driving position the foot sinks back a bit in the shoe, creating some space.
